Even as a small child staring at a painting done in tawny yellows and blacks representing some kind of feral cat, I knew that I wanted to make colors dance into shapes and make my own pictures. I never had any doubt that my life would be one of creating artwork.

As I look back now after more than sixty years, I am amazed and pleased that despite what could have been enormous obstacles, I managed to keep my goals in front of me and never loose heart. This is especially true because I found myself on the path of a teacher and professional glass artist without any paper credentials to prove my worth. Factor in that I was a single Mom, and that glass by its nature is expensive to produce and takes a great deal of knowledge in order to work with it, even in its simplest forms, I never gave up. All the ways that I have found to work with glass have been determined by finding ways to make it accessible .... I had hoped to be a glass blower, but it always remained out of reach ... So I found ways to work with flat glass, to change the surface with sandblasting and engraving and then with fired enamels. Turning flat glass into three dimensional sculptural work has determined the path I have taken, first by combining it with carved wood, then later by painting with vitreous enamels and cutting it into mosaics. Mosaic glass has a special fascination for me as it can become an entire faceted skin which carries color and texture over an undulating surface.

I would have to say that my work encompasses a complete fascination with color, form, texture and conceptual content which is tied together with a narrative element. Reverse painting and drawing on glass as a canvas is unlike any other material; the colors remain vibrant and "wet" and yet I can build textures and veils within the surface that could not be attained any other way.

I am addicted. And with every new piece I am further informed about the magic of the possibilities of the material .... I will never know too much ... I will always search out, invent and experiment with new ways to push the materials I work with; that is the pleasure of being a Maker, an Inventor, an Alchemist and Storyteller  ... Nothing seems out of reach, not even my audience.
