In her choice of brightly colored, precious, and exotic-looking materials, Cribbs' love of textiles and decorative arts is apparent, and her luxurious look is highly appropriate for fantastic, "fairy-tale" context that her artworks evoke. Textiles, particularly, hold an attraction for the artist, from Renaissance velvets to Guatemalan cottons to the colorful, gold, fabric-inspired backgrounds of painters like Gustav Klimt. Her sumptuous combinations of materials and colors also recall Byzantine, Renaissance, and Art Nouveau decorative arts.
